Where to go and what to eat

Take a drive - day trips

The roads are quite good in Portugal, with little traffic. Due to its location Avecasta is an excellent starting point for several day trips in the region.

Within an hour: places of interest within an hours drive are: Tomar with its medieval fort, the old university city Coimbra, Nazaré by the sea, Santarém and Óbidos.

Over an hour: there is of course Lisbon, which is only one hour and twenty minutes drive away and Porto, which is a two hours drive. See 'Sightseeing' for more information.

Have some food and drinks

Upon entering Avecasta there is café Simões with spacious terrace and mini-market. Every day from early morning until late evening are Jose and his wife opened.

Two kilometres further down, Jorge and his two mates run Mobiladora Pereirense. They sell everything: food, but also building materials and furniture. Also a café.

The baker comes every day, except Sunday, at the door. Around half past nine in the morning you hear him honk. If you do not want to wait then you can drive about 8 minutes to the bakery in Areias.

In the chapter ‘Restaurants’ we have some suggestions of places to eat nearby.

A little exercise

Have a walk in the area. It is full of olive groves, small country roads with little traffic and has a beautiful scenery.
We can arrange a guided walk if you like.
